Dearborn Heights man wins $1M lottery twice on same day, says it was an accident
Winning the lottery once is a dream. But winning the lottery twice in the same day seems impossible.
For 56-year-old Dearborn Heights resident Samir Mazahem, the impossible event became a reality when an accident led him to win the lottery two times.
In June, Mazahem bought two tickets online with the same number – 01-05-09-10-23 – by accident.
Mazahem said he saved his most-played numbers as “favorites” on the lottery app.
“What I didn’t realize, is that meant I would be buying a second ticket with the same numbers,” Mazahem told the Michigan Lottery. “Once I figured out I had bought two tickets with identical numbers, I was a little bummed but didn’t think much about it.”
After buying his tickets on MichiganLottery.com, he logged into the app to check his lottery numbers.
This is when he saw two $1 million prizes waiting for him.
“Saying that I was stunned is an understatement,” he said. “I couldn’t believe it was real. It took several days for the reality to set in that my mistake had paid off to the tune of $2 million!”
Mazahem claimed his prizes and said he plans to buy a house then save the rest of his winnings.
“Winning is exciting and gives me some comfort knowing that when I retire, I will have money in the bank,” he said.
